Air Traffic Control Striking In Spain

September 22nd, 2010

once again it seems that there are problems in the airline industry with more airline staff striking and this time it seems to be the Spanish air traffic control staff, it would seem that when it comes to this industry there is always something going wrong and I am not sure they are actually getting any less money than I am so what is the issue.

It would seem that they can strike and get away with it because thousands of people rely on them and they have the power not to be ignored by people, I know that if I went on strike there would not be many people that cared, they are really just upsetting the people that are hoping to go on their travels this week!!

The Nature Of The Strike

Like with all of the strikes in this kind of sector it is over money and this is really annoying because the chiefs of the company really couldn’t care less about these people and the only thing the people are doing is upsetting everyone else.

On the other hand I can understand where they are coming from, if they are not getting paid enough money for what they are doing then what choice do they actually have? They have most likely tried everything else and if their standard of living is threatened by low pay then I most certainly see their point.

The main issue is for the people looking to go on a Moraira holiday because they might not get to go on their vacation. Although the strike has said to happen on the 18th of August this has not been confirmed so it could all change so be warned!

Look out for those Spanish villa images still because the chances are something will happen to fix this whole mess up and you will still have your trip away!

BAA Passenger Numbers Drop In Aftermath Of The BA Strikes

September 2nd, 2010

Junes British Airways strike has reportedly caused the number of passengers using airports run and operated by BAA to fall considerably over the last few weeks. According to BAA, passenger numbers dropped by 1.7% in its airports over the last month (compared to the same period last year).

Although BA denies the strikes are completely to blame, BAA have suggested that it would have expected passenger numbers to be the same as last year if it wasnt for the impact of the BA strike.

British Airways staff, most notably the cabin crew, were on strike for around 22 days in 2010, 9 of which were in the last month. BA claimed the amount of people it carried last month was down 11% due to the strikes, although it still had over 2.5 million customers.

BAA currently runs and operates six major UK airports, as it sold Gatwick in 2009 for a reported £1.5bn. BAA now operates Stansted, Heathrow, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Southampton and Aberdeen airports.

It is difficult to tell how much the BA strikes have had an impact on BAA airports. Glasgow airport for example, who do have BA flights, saw a 7% drop from last year, but Stansted on the other hand, which doesnt have BA flight, saw a 5.2% drop.

Perhaps BAA needs to do a better job with its airports, rather than simply blaming British Airways for their own internal strikes. Take Manchester Airport for example, they focus heavily on customer service, staff happiness and a high level of retail and functional facilities. They have seen a marked increase in their business over the last few years, and I cant see that its just coincidence that their airport lounges & airport hotels are very highly thought of and rated, as are the staff and the Manchester Airport parking facilities are second to none.

A Guide To Choosing The Perfect Hotel

August 23rd, 2010

What vacationer is happy, when arriving at their lodging, to find that the hotel is not well kept or that their room has been given to someone else? One of the best ways to find a hotel that suits you is to check the internet for reviews. There are many places on the internet that review hotels and other types of accommodations. Most award stars or some other icon to hotels according to reviews. Often theres a written review as well. Most travelers are looking for certain qualities in hotel accommodations

Cleanliness and friendliness: Most travelers want to ensure that their room will be clean and that the hotels staff will be friendly. If you want to spend a bit more money, a concierge is a nice addition to the staff of the hotel in which youre staying. The concierge can tell you all of the good local places to eat and visit.

Security: 24/7 front desk staff is a must in a good hotel. Good hotels also have full security staff. Key cards are the best keys. They can be discarded when a lodger checks out and they can be replaced if they are lost.

Price: And you probably are looking at price. Its not always the best idea to go for the least expensive rooms. You may be getting something extra for the extra that you pay. For example, you may pay a little more for a pool, exercise room or restaurant in the hotel. Remember, if your dates are flexible you may get the best rates. Hotels that cater to business functions often give great rates during the week.

Location: A hotel that is close to eateries and attractions saves money on car rental. If you are a traveler who likes to have a car, be sure that you choose a hotel thats near a rental dealership or a dealership that will deliver the car to you.

The best way to book a clean, safe, and friendly hotel room in a convenient location is to do some internet research and then call the hotel and check on certain aspects that interest you. Be sure to specify if you plan to arrive late. Get the name of the person you speak with and have them email you a confirmation so you can check on the details of your reservation before you arrive. And have a wonderful time!

Airport Con Artists Exposed

August 21st, 2010

My writings are inspired by my brothers unfortunate experience when he landed in a 3rd world country with a 1st world naivety. He was a stranger in a strange land. His flight was long, over 12 hours. The flight was connecting 8 hours later. So he had 9 hours to kill in a foreign land. After his international flight he had to exit and find the domestic airport to check in.??Where was the domestic terminal he thought as he cleared the arrivals hall. Your hotel is waiting sir, come with us the 2 men in suits told him as he entered the arrivals hall. I didn’t book a hotel he informed them. As they seemed to know a lot, he assumed they were staff. He was told the airport was dangerous at night and he should leave with them. As they were leaving with his bags he had to chase after them. What do you have to do to make them understand the meaning of NO.??He had to run after his bags as the men were taking them. An airport transfer and a hotel, just what he needed after a long trip, and these men were very keen to help. What a great place, nice friendly people. They bundled him into a car and drove him to a swish hotel, then left him waiting while they went to reception he thought to pick up his key.
It started to get a little scary at this point. He watched as they argues with the hotel staff, before they angrily told him the hotel was double booked, they had another hotel to go to. They are ripping me off here, he realised. Was this really happening? The men were trying to negotiate a slice of the hotel room fee. The receptionist said no to the mens proposal and asked them to leave.Once they delivered a victim to a hotel, the scam was to overcharge him and pay the men off. Your environment is new and you are not as confident as you would be at home. How do you know the local police number 999 or 112 or 000.
In total he was in 3 hotels before one agreed to rip him off $450 for a 5 hour stay. He realised the thieves made a lot of money at the room rate was $25 a night.?Is there a lesson to be learnt from this? Well….. think ahead of course and arrange airport transfers.

What a great story to tell at the wedding, to which he arrived safely. Luckily it was a happy ending.
