Turkish Airlines Expands Routes on the Heel of Impressive Profits for 2010
Turkish Airlines, which is a member of Star Alliance group, is stronger than ever. They currently fly to 171 international destinations which consists of 130 international routes as well as 41 domestic routes. Flying out of their primary base at Ataturk International Airport, their ports of call span the globe from Europe to Africa, Asia and North and South America. Each of the past four years has witnessed a steady increase in numbers of passengers carried as well as total revenue. In 2006, they flew a total of 17 million passengers with a total of 2.2 billion USD. 2009 was a terrific year in which their passenger total was up to just over 25 million with total revenue of 4 billion USD.
October of 2010 saw the announcement that Turkish Airlines will continue to expand their reach during 2011. Of course that is great news for this rapidly growing European airline. The Turkish Ministry of Transport released the news of eleven new destinations this year. There will be four weekly flights to Shiraz, Iran beginning in mid-March. As for the US, in early March we’ll see four weekly flights to Los Angeles, California. This is great news for reaching the west coast of the US. Additional countries include China, Greece, Spain, France and three destinations in Italy.
Last year, 2010, was a banner profit year for Turkish Airlines as they reported a 9M net profit of 169 million USD. Overall sales revenue jumped by 39% to a total of 5 billion USD. The company’s strategic plan includes the addition of new Boeing long-haul fleet of 777-300ER’s for increased business class revenue. However, they also have plans for using the wide-body jets for international cargo hauls, as well. The figures from last year were unexpected but certainly welcomed. Perhaps that is fueling the fire as the airlines has been very active with marketing their brand, world-wide. Targeted goals include making inroads in the US markets as well as continued growth in Asia.
The incentives and rewards programs for Elite Plus members and the Miles & Smiles family memberships has finally been consolidated into one account. Essentially, the Elite Plus members will enjoy greater convenience because their earned miles will be located in a single account.
Not only is this for the individual account holders, but the saved and generated miles will also apply to their family members, as well. The miles can be earned from purchases made from the Miles & Smiles credit card and flights with partnered Star Alliance member airlines.
Just one of the benefits derived from the successful marketing of Turkish airlines is the ability to diversify marketing efforts.
This is merely a universal principle of sound business practices. But still, available funds are not always spent so wisely by any business, yet Turkish Airlines recognizes the wisdom of reinvesting in their business. So not only does it make the airline stronger, but it allows for passengers to benefit as well.
