Southwest Airlines Provides Reduced Prices To South Carolina

When Southwest Airlines comes to town, rivaling airlines take serious notice. According to USA Today, it is called the “Southwest Effect,” and it’s an effective industry force. The force is so powerful that within an hour of announcing brand new avenues into SC, the competitors scrambled to lower prices by 30 % or more.

Having Southwest Airlines around saves consumers money

In Charleston and Greenville-Spartanburg, SC, Southwest announced flights would be going there. Southwest Airlines shook up the industry and made rivals change rates to be more competitive and cheaper. Now the Southwest Effect has blown in which means that those within the Palmetto State can travel via air for cheaper prices. Charleston’s the Post and Courier said, “within one hour of Southwest Airlines’ revealing information of its service launching from Charleston International Airport next year, local airfares plunged to $59 each way to Southwest-bound destinations — but only after March 13.”

More business is the plan for travel companies

A tsunami of savings has happened because Southwest Airlines have made such a bold move, John Powers of Travel Management Group in Charleston said. “All major carriers cut their rates by at least 30 percent,” he explained. He then moved on. “And most slashed rates considerably more.” Southwest Airlines have been met by competitor flights which had to lower from $228 to $59. Other reports like this have come from News 4 of Charleston which is an ABC affiliate. March 13 had been when the lower airfare started. One flight from Charleston to Chicago was $219, but dropped to $99. Even flights with stop-over’s, like one to New York City, went from $400 to $129 one-way. Flights out of Greenville-Spartanburg should also see dramatic decreases, say travel industry experts.
