The city itself reflects its varied cultural past and includes many Byzantine churches and monuments, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as architecture from the Ottoman period and from a formerly dominant Jewish population.
White Tower, a popular attraction is a tower of 16th century. It now houses the Museum of Byzantine Cultures, although you may get on top of the tower to enjoy immense views of the neighbouring area. The Upper Town or ‘Ano Poli’ has several attractive cobbled streets and conventional houses, while the Byzantine Churches differ in age, from 5th to the 14th century.
The Mount Olympus is the chief mountain of Greece; and includes a National Park. This has not been chiefly urbanized for people although sequentially to preserve the area; and therefore the ideal way to reach the top of the mountain, is through trekking.
