If you were to lose out on enjoying a number of days from your holiday because of jet lag, then you would be rightly annoyed. - As well as the time difference causing jet lag, dehydration can also play a part. Because coffee and alcohol are diuretics, they will provide you with liquid but will also make you need to go to the toilet more; that is why you should avoid these on a flight and instead drink plenty of water.

 

- Set your watch to the time at the destination before you leave and begin acting as if that was the time in your current location. So eat breakfast if is that time in your destination. Getting into the sleep pattern for your destination is also wise.

 

- When you land at your destination during day time do your best to stay awake; don’t just go to your hotel and crash. Try to stay awake as long as you can until it is night time so you can get into a normal sleeping pattern.



 

- Before you head off on your trip you should make a point of eating healthily and exercising in the weeks beforehand. Those who are healthy find it much easier to deal with jet lag.

 

- If it is daylight at your destination try to spend at least a bit of time outdoors. The sun on your body will make it easier for you to adjust to the difference in time zone. Heading straight to the office from the plane is not the best way to get your body to adjust.

 

- You are bound to be tired for the first few days so try to relax and leave any trips for a few days.
