Dia de Sant Jordi It is celebrated on 23rd of April and is also known as St George’s day. It is somewhat similar to the Valentine’s Day but with a slight variation. On this day lovers exchange gifts with each other like Valentine’s day. The trend of giving rose is very old but the norm of giving books is quite new. Nearly 4 million roses and 400,000 books are sold on this single day, you will find many temporary flower stands and book stalls were set up on the road side for this particular day. Though it is not an official holiday but most of the young population take holiday from work and spend the day with their lovers.

Festival de Sonar – Sonar is a 3 day music festival held annually in Barcelona for the last 18 years. It is one of the most famous music festivals in Europe. The event starts on Thursday in the third week and June every year and close to 1 million visitors attend this event. Sonar by day takes place in two locations – Center of Contemporary Culture and the Museum of Contemporary Art, both the venues are close to La Ramblas. Sonar by night takes place away from the city centre. Special bus services are set up to transport people to the venue.

Festival de Sant Joan It is a national holiday and every year it is held on 23rd or 24th of June. It is celebrated across Spain with lots of fun and love. During night you can witness lots of bonfires, music, dance and fireworks. Men, women and children work together to prepare bonfire. This event holds special meaning for those town and cities that are close to sea. In some parts of Spain people party on the street and pat the back side of the black horse. This is one of the few events that you do not wish to miss.

La Diada La Diada is the official national holiday of Catalonia and is being celebrated on 11th September every year to honor the Catalan troops who lost the city of Barcelona in 1714 to the Duke of Berwick. After the fall of Barcelona Catalonia lost its independence and its self -government was abolished and Spain was born as a new country.

Festes de la Merce It is the biggest and the most colorful event of the year held every year. It is a four day event and around 500 events take place across the city as the city transforms into a big open air stage. One important event that takes place during this festival is the creation of human tower which is built with the help of group of people. Parades, concerts, air shows and fireworks are some of the other attractions of the festival.
